Expanded Freelancer’s Toolkit Launches with Key Tax Updates and Support for Creative Professionals

June 19, 20252 minute read

Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet (CCIS) is proud to relaunch the Freelancer’s Toolkit: a fully updated, expanded online resource for Ireland’s freelance workforce.

Originally launched in 2021 to support freelancers in the animation and screen industries, the Freelancer’s Toolkit has now been broadened to include performing arts and visual arts professionals, acknowledging the complex, project-based nature of freelance work across the wider cultural and creative sector.

The new site offers practical guidance on essential topics including Career Development, Health and Wellbeing, Running Your Business, Marketing & Branding, and an extensively refreshed Tax section.

Key Updates Include:

  • Latest Tax Guidance: Reflecting the new Revenue Commissioners guidance as of May 2024, the Toolkit now includes a detailed breakdown of how employment status is being redefined. This is crucial for freelancers navigating whether they are classified as employees or self-employed for tax and legal purposes, and it’s particularly relevant in project-heavy industries.
  • Expanded Industry Scope: The Toolkit now serves freelancers across animation, screen, performing, and visual arts, bringing together support in one cross-sector hub.
  • Updated Resource Directory: From funding bodies and co-working studios to mentorship schemes and wellbeing supports, the updated Industry Links section provides a comprehensive directory of trusted organisations, initiatives and opportunities.
  • Freelancer-Focused Tone: With clear, accessible language and tips grounded in real-world practice, the Toolkit is designed for freelancers at all stages from emerging creatives to seasoned professionals.

We’ve worked hard to ensure this is more than just a directory,” says Gareth Lee, Manager of CCIS. “It’s a living toolkit that evolves alongside our industries, offering practical support, sector-specific updates, and a space where freelance creatives can build sustainable, empowered careers.”

Whether you need help preparing your first invoice, searching for co-working options, or managing your health and wellbeing, the Freelancer’s Toolkit provides guidance in a language and format that puts freelancers first.
