Overview
There has never been a busier time for post production in Ireland, and those with Avid Media Composer skills are in high demand. The focus of this programme is to primarily widen the pool of Assistant Editors, of which there is currently a skills shortage.
The programme will encompass soft & transversal skills, technical training, and a shadow placement opportunity (up to two weeks)
What will this course cover?
- Week 1: Soft & transversal skills sessions to include – Time Management, Problem Solving & Effective Communication in addition to a Masterclass with a current assistant editor.
- Weeks 4 & 5: Shadow Placements
All Placements will take place at the following post-houses and broadcasters in Dublin:

Participant profile/Who can apply/Eligibility
This course is aimed at recent graduates from creative courses or self taught individuals who have some experience with either Avid Media Composer OR Final Cut Pro OR Adobe Premiere Pro OR DaVinci Resolve and who are actively interested in working as an ASSISTANT EDITOR within a post facility or broadcaster.
This programme is co-funded by Skillnet Ireland – Skills Connect fund, and is aimed at those currently unemployed or underemployed and who are also resident in the Republic of Ireland.
As places are limited and in demand, all successful candidates must commit to being available full time for the duration of this 5 week programme.
All workshops are delivered remotely and in English. Workshops will run from October 2nd – October 20th. Placement dates TBC but most likely Oct/Nov immediately following training.
Tutor information

Trevor Boden became a documentary editor, director and producer after 15 years lecturing in Film & Television in the UK. He has been a training consultant for Avid Technology Europe since late 1990 and was a director of the London post production facility Cinecontact for 15 years and for 12 years managed Carlton Television’s major training and development initiative – the “Seedcorn Fund”. He is an AVID, Master Instructor, training and certifying over 1000 Avid Certified Instructors in professional training companies, broadcast companies and universities globally.

CMAI aid graduates in making the transition from full time education to working in the media (screen, animation, immersive) industry by providing courses that are built in conjunction with industry. All courses are delivered by senior professionals currently working within the relevant creative sectors today.
Materials/equipment/software needed
Candidates must have:
- access to a computer and separate monitor.
- good stable internet connectivity 30Mbps +
Successful candidates will Access Media Composer via CMAI.
Venue/location
Training delivered remotely. Placements are on site at various post houses, predominantly based in Dublin.
Application process
PREREQUISITES:
This is a competitive process and candidates are selected for this programme via application & Interview.
- All candidates must be available on a full-time basis for the entire duration of the programme.
- The software training is remote and is full time Mon to Fri.
- The soft skills training is remote and is part time Mon to Fri.
- The studio placement is in-person and will require attendance for up to 2 weeks, most likely in Dublin.
- Only those who are shortlisted will be called for interview.

Successful candidates will be asked to pay an admin fee of €100 upon registration.
(This programme is heavily subsidised by Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet and would normally cost the participant in the region of €2,500 if undertaken privately).
