Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet are delighted to welcome Kirsten Shiel for this in-depth ten week course, which was created to help Animation and Games artists to get their design portfolio polished and ready to submit to studios or clients.
What will this course cover?
Kirsten Shiel is a freelance art director and has hired and led full design teams both in Dublin and Manchester for 2D and 3D projects. She will share some tips and tricks and guide you through the following topics:
- Character Design
- Environment Design
- Visual Development and Concept Art
- Colour and Lighting
- Social Media and Online Presence
- Interviews and Studio Tests
- Organisation and Presentation of your Portfolio

Animation, Games and VFX artists working to to get their portfolio polished and ready to submit to studios or clients.
Tutor
Kirsten Shiel has been working in the animation industry on both 2D and 3D projects for Disney, Apple, Nickelodeon, NBC Universal and Netflix as a background artist, a character designer, a concept artist, and an art director for Brown Bag Films Dublin.
She is also an award winning illustrator who has worked for clients like the BBC, Microsoft, Aer Lingus and John West Tuna.
Materials/equipment/software needed
Participants will need to have a good internet connection and a device with Audio, Webcam and Microphone for live chat sessions and feedback. Digital painting software is not strictly necessary, but is preferred.

Costs/fee
Normally, the fee for this course would be €145 Euro, but through Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet we can offer this course at the subsidised members rate of €100.
Dates and times of the course
10 evening classes on Tuesdays from 6.30pm-8pm, apart from week 2’s class is on a Wednesday.
