Overview
This session supports anyone working in the film and TV industry whose role is reliant on team working and organisational collaboration, to understand and apply the foundations of Psychological Safety (PS).
PS is a key enabling factor in high performance creative environments, underpinning the healthy, dynamic and engaged teams which are core to optimal performance, high engagement levels and job satisfaction. PS is further evidenced to supercharge innovation and inclusion – two factors which are essential in the building of highly creative, diverse and resilient teams within the sector.
Exploring a series of applicable tools and techniques, participants will be encouraged to understand how they can apply PS to their own working practices and contribute to the creation of a healthy, inclusive and dynamic working culture.
What will this course cover?
By the end of this workshop participants will be able to:
- Understand a model of psychological safety
- Apply this into a team or production
- Utilise behavioural tools to contribute to psychological safety

Anyone working in the Film & TV industry that is responsible for the wellbeing of the workers, including cast, crew, contributors etc.

Tutor information

Michelle White holds an MSc in Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology and works with individuals and organisations to develop the meaningful, resilient and healthy approaches which underpin creative, happy and sustainable working environments.
She has over 18 years’ experience of leading teams within the film events and exhibition sector for organisations, such as the BFI, the London Film Festival and DDA Live. Michelle is also an invited Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, for her work developing young emerging talent within the film industry. Michelle contributed to the development of the BAFTA/BFI anti-bullying principles within the screen industries and the Film and TV Charities Mentally Healthy Productions Toolkit. She works regularly with organisations like BECTU, The Film and TV Charity, Screen Skills, BAFTA, Google, NEO Leaders and INSEAD Business School. She is a member of the British Psychological Society and is an accredited Mindfulness Teacher and Strengths Coaching Practitioner.
Away from work, she loves films, reading, podcasts, animals, cups of tea, warm blankets, hiking, nature, sunny beaches, ghost stories, brunch and running.
Michelle is a Co-Director, Psychologist, and Coach for the charity 6ft From The Spotlight. The charity is focused on promoting mental health and wellbeing within the Film, TV, Theatre, and Touring Music sectors. Their mission is to create positive working cultures by providing specialized training, on-set support, and consultancy services
