Overview

This training programme, run in partnership with the National Talent Academies, Crew Academy South, and in collaboration with TVM Outside Broadcasting Facilities, provides an excellent foundation for those starting out in the camera or multi-skilled side of the broadcast industry. Whether participants have just graduated with a media degree or are entering the industry directly, they will gain valuable information and experience to quickly become competent and valued members of the camera department.

The programme begins with a day of classroom learning and discussions followed by three practical days in the studio.

The programme will explore the skills required to assist on a range of shows and by the end of the course, candidates should have a solid foundation in the basics of camera assisting for multicamera operations across various program types, with the potential to progress to a fully trained camera operator.

Candidates should have a passion for photography.

Participant profile/Who can apply/Eligibility

Applicants must have a passion for photography and an ambition to become a professional multi-camera operator in this fast growing sector. Media graduates and non-graduates are very welcome to apply.

Tutor information

Diarmuid Galvin has over a decade of experience in the television industry. After extensive training, he started as a Camera Assistant and swiftly advanced to operating cameras, jibs, and remote camera systems. His work spans a variety of genres, including light entertainment, live music, sporting events, and various ceremonies, both in Ireland, the UK, and internationally.

In addition to his professional work, Diarmuid has spent the past 10 years conducting workshops to help upskill trainees in the TV and film industry.

Costs/fee

Course fee €350 per person. (Without the support of Screen Ireland, the National Talent Academies, Crew Academy South and Cultural & Creative Industry this course would cost €1,800 per person)

Deadline for course applications

12noon on Monday 6th January 2024. Due to the tight turnaround suitable applicants will be awarded a place on a first come basis. Therefore, we may stop accepting applications before the deadline date.
