Overview
Cultural and Creative Industries Skillnet is pleased to welcome back Adam Oliver to lead this course designed for animators looking to reconnect with their creativity and make real progress on their own animation projects.
The Animator’s Workshop is a hands-on, project-focused course led by experienced animator Adam Oliver from Adam’s Animation Academy. This workshop provides structure, guidance, and community support to help you push past creative blocks and turn your ideas into tangible work. Through a combination of project planning, practical exercises, and feedback, you’ll develop confidence in your creative voice and establish a clear path forward for your project.
What will this course cover?
The Animator’s Workshop is designed to help animators actively develop and refine their animation projects, covering:
- Techniques for reigniting creativity and overcoming artistic blocks
- World-building and storytelling tailored for animated projects
- Practical strategies for structuring and developing your animation from concept to execution
- The ‘Reverse Roadmap’ method to break your project into manageable, actionable steps
- Scene and sequence refinement to enhance your visual storytelling
- Group discussions and professional feedback to keep you motivated and inspired

Tutor

Adam Oliver is a professional animator with over 15 years of experience in the animation industry. Adam specialises in helping animators bring their ideas to life and learn the tools to do so. He understands the challenges of independent animation and provides clear, actionable guidance to help participants move forward with confidence. With a focus on creativity, problem-solving, and structured planning, Adam fosters an inspiring and supportive learning environment.
Materials/equipment/software needed
- A computer or tablet capable of running animation or drawing software
- Your preferred animation method (e.g, Toon Boom, TVPaint, Adobe Animate, Procreate, or traditional methods like stop motion or just post-its and a pencil!)
- A sketchbook or digital note-taking tool for idea development
- Internet access for live sessions, discussions, and course materials
