What will this course cover?
Session 3: The Copyright Directive
The Copyright Directive is a European Union law designed to modernise copyright rules for the digital age. In Ireland, the Copyright Directive was transposed into national law in November 2021. Its relevance lies in how it improves protections for Irish creators, including musicians, writers, filmmakers, and animators. It ensures that Irish content creators can more easily license their work, assert their rights, and receive fair payment when their content is used online or shared across the EU.
Animation Ireland, as part of a working group with Equity, Screen Composers Guild of Ireland, Screen Directors Guild of Ireland, Screen Producers Ireland and The Writers Guild of Ireland under the auspices of Screen Ireland, has published guidelines to help its members navigate copyright and IP protection. You can view these guidelines HERE
This lunch and learn will examine the main provisions of the Directive and review and discuss the guidelines from Animation Ireland.
It should be noted that these workshops are educational in nature and should not be considered legal advice specific to your circumstances. If you need assistance, you should always consult independent legal advice.
Participant profile
This series of lunchtime workshops will help creatives, producers, management, and administrative personnel understand how the law and animation interact.
