Overview
Are you working in an animation studio in Ireland and interested in learning the fundamentals of WRITING for children’s animation TV series?
Join Dee Roycroft as she takes participants through the steps of writing a spec script for an existing series. From story to character to dialogue, this programme will teach participants how to write their own episode of an existing series from initial premise, right through to first draft. (Participants can come with a show in mind, or can decide what series they would like to write a spec for as they work through the course)
This ONLINE programme will run for 5 x Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm – 8.30pm each week, from October 21st – November 18th
Curriculum / Workshops

| Tuesday Oct 21st | Week 1 – Introduction to the fundamentals of plot and structure, and writing pitches/one-liners. |
| Tuesday Oct 28th | Week 2 – Moving from Premise to SxS, while sustaining the emotional heart of your story. |
| Tuesday Nov 4th | Week 3 – Moving from SXS to D1, looking at format, arc, bringing the world to life and how to make your characters sing. |
| Tuesday Nov 11th | Week 4 – Industry panel with a group of children’s animation series creators/writers, where you will have the opportunity to ask all your burning questions. |
| Tuesday Nov 18th | Week 5 – Reviewing the first draft, and taking notes. Reviewing the submitted Draft 1’s of your fellow participants, you will talk through varying kinds of notes writers can receive; global notes, line by line notes, production notes, and who may be feeding back on a script. The workshop will conclude with Q&A and a discussion about next steps to identify goals and strategies for using your new skills. |

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of the course, participants will:
• have a broad understanding of the role of the writer within the production process
• have knowledge and understanding of the different stages of an animation script
• demonstrate the ability to engage with a script editor, take notes and work on multiple drafts
• be able to comment and feedback respectfully on fellow writers’ work
• write an episode of a children’s animation from pitch through to final draft
Participant profile
This workshop is open to individuals working in animation studios in Ireland who are interested in adding the fundamentals of writing for children’s animated series to their skillset.
Due to our funding parameters, this course is only available to those resident in the Republic Of Ireland.

The writing sample should be a piece that you think best represents your writing. Please submit only ONE of the following:- A short original script extract for film, tv or theatre. Please indicate on the cover page which medium it is intended for (max 5 pages)
- A short pitch/outline for film, tv or theatre. Please indicate on the cover page which medium it is intended for (max 1 page)
- A short story (max 2 pages)
- An episode outline originated by you (max 1 page)
- An episode outline originated by you from an existing kids series (eg Bluey, Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol etc) (max 1 page)
- A spec script originated by you from an existing kids series (eg Bluey, Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol etc) (max 5 pages)”

Dee Roycroft
Dee Roycroft is a writer and script editor currently writing on new projects for both Cartoon Saloon and Daily Madness. Recent work includes Ollie for Ink & Light and Jessy and Nessy for Amazon Studios. Over the past 8 years, Dee has worked on productions for many companies and broadcasters including RTÉ, BBC, CBBC, Telegael, Fíbín, SLR Australia and TG4. She has co-ordinated Fair City’s New Writers’ programme, mentored on initiatives with Galway Film Centre and the WGI, and taught short courses in the Irish Writers Centre and RTÉ.
